KLEIN optimises the core sand mixer STATORMIX for anorganic binders
The application of various
inorganic binders was tested in the foundry of a German automobile
manufacturer.
A mixer existing in the core
shop was employed to prepare the core sand. But problems were
encountered during the core shooting process the reason for which
was found in inhomogeneous core sand mixtures.
Not so with the application
of a KLEIN core sand mixer STATORMIX by means of which these core
shooting problems did not occur.
The proven double-chamber
mixing process of the STATORMIX was analysed and optimised in the
KLEIN test department with a view to inorganic binders.
Instead of the expected
bending strength of approx. 400 N/cm² the mixing process with an
inorganic binder consisting of three liquid components by means of
the STATORMIX resulted in approx. 540 N/cm² Consequently the binder
consumption can be reduced considerably. Core sand containing less
humidity can be better shot and the drying expenditure is reduced.
The diagram illustrates the achieved bending strength depending on
the added amount of binder.

The STATORMIX also proved
reliable in the core shooting shop of several foundries working with
inorganic binders consisting of powdery components.
Thanks to the tightly closed
double-chamber and the very short cycle times loss in humidity of
the mixed batch and consequently loss of bending strength of the
shot cores is reduced.
In addition to the outlined
advantages the mixing chamber of the STATORMIX was kept clean by
means of the integrated cleaning system.
Inorganic binder and the
STATORMIX go together very well!
